Wrecking ball was released on the 25th of august 2013 starting at number 50 on the U.S Billboard hot 100 soon crawled to number one on the  U.S Billboard hot 100 making it Mileys first number one single, and 9 weeks later Wrecking ball returned to number one making it largest gap between number-one sittings in Billboard Hot 100 history. also reaching Number one in Albania, Canada, Hungary, Israel, Lebanon, Mexico, Scotland, Spain, UK, while hitting very high in many other countries, as well as receiving 4× Platinum in Australia and the US, 3× Platinum in Sweden and canada and 8× Platinum in norway.

Wrecking ball also held the record for Vevo’s most viewed in 24 hours with 19.3 Million! taking the record from One Direction with “Best Song Ever” at 12.3 million but sadly miley has lost the record only a few days ago when  Nicki Minaj just squeezed past her with with her music video “Anaconda” at 19.6 million in 24 hours.

And just  to top it off today Wrecking ball won miley cyrus Video of the year award one year later, that’s right all this has happened in one year and apart from being one super successful single, wrecking ball has helped propel miley further into the spotlight then anyone could have even imagined only a few years ago.

Mileys date to the award show “Jesse”

When Jimmy fallon who was presenting the “Moon Man” award for Video of the year announced; well really he shouted, that miley had won the Video of the year award with Wrecking ball, the winning song came on and Miley and a man whose name we have since learnt to be Jesse, rose from their seats and hugged as the crowds cheered, then they both started to walk to the stage or so it appeared until  miley quickly turned around and headed back to her spot and watched from there, while jesse continued onto stage and  said ““My name is Jesse” and stated while reading from his hand notes that

“I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving and lost and scared for their lives. I know, because I am one of those people.” when Jimmy fallon help by holding the microphone and jesse then continued with

“I survived in shelters all over the city,I’ve cleaned hotel rooms been and been an extra in your movies and I’ve been and extra in your life. Though  I may have been invisible to you on the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight. “Los Angeles, entertainment capital, has the largest population of homeless youth in America. The music industry will make over $ 7 million this year and outside these doors are 54,000 human beings who have no place to call home. If you want to make a powerful change in the world right now, please join us and go to mileys facebook page”

Jesse finished the speech with a powerful statement ““A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”  which is quoted from John Lennon of the beatles.

You might be thinking why did miley cyrus give up her possibly(probably not) one chance to accept the MTV’s biggest VMAs award for Video of the year, Miley humbly gave up her time in the Spotlight to launch a campaign to help raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness, if you go to mileys facebook page you will find her status with video that explains everything (below)
